We head to the kitchen, me straight to the fridge and Evan immediately to the pantry to return the gun before the officers come in. We were already making chicken Parmesan for dinner, so instead of freezing the extra chicken as planned, I cook it all so the guys can eat too if they want some. Moments after the oven timer sounds, the front door opens to admit a pouty Brandon, followed by Brody and his partner.
"What the hell, Killer? How do I always miss the good stuff?"
I roll my eyes at him while I pull plates down from the cabinet. "Ah, yes. The fun stuff. Because getting screamed by at by a crazy man and having a gun pulled on you is the fun stuff."
Turning to the officers, I smile and hold out plates, pointing to the TV once they accept them. "Do y'all want dinner? I made chicken Parm, and there's plenty. We've pulled the footage and will play it for you on the big TV, and you can watch while you eat. "
Both happily accept, so I grab them drinks while they make up their plates. I'm not technically trying to distract them with food, especially since there's no reason for them to suspect we've done anything wrong, but it can't hurt to dote on them a bit to work a little Jedi mind magic.
Brandon gets his food next, then I grab mine and Evan's while he gets the video started.
Watching the whole thing unfold in front of me is so weird. We have cameras facing both the door and the driveway, so we can view all angles. Evan somehow made it work in split screen with the audio from only one playing, so we're getting both perspectives at the same time. Both of us sold being confused and a bit afraid, and with our ability to prove Patrick has been harassing us since Gran died we shouldn't have any problems getting a restraining order against him.
Since Brody actually knows me, I'm glad I didn't go overboard with the acting and I make sure to stay pretty even tempered, but we are able to convince them his harassment of us has been ongoing. We also provide them with the phone number for Evan's attorney, Preston Talbert. Not only because they should have it in case anything happens, but because he was an impartial witness who could corroborate how Patrick acted during the funeral and reading of the will. When they ask if we want to press charges, they're both shocked when I say no.
"Look," I tell them, "Patrick's been through a lot of shit lately. His mom died, probably killed by his son who is also now missing. All I want is to obtain a restraining and trespass order. If he'll leave us alone, that's enough for me. I don't have anything against him except irritation that he won't leave us alone and accept that his son ran off. Well, those things and the name-calling, but I've been called worse.
